New York: Random House, 1958. Book. Near Fine +. Hardcover. First Edition. First edition, stated "First Printing." First-issue dust jacket with $3.50 publisher's price and "10/58" date code on front flap. Yellow cloth binding with black title block and gold lettering on the spine. Blue top edge. 179 pages. NEAR FINE + book in VERY GOOD + dust jacket. The book is very bright and very clean with very little wear, just the slightest hint of a bump to the lower rear corner and the slightest touch of wear to the lower corner tips and a very slight crease at the bottom edge of the spine. No sunning to the spine which shows only a very slight touch of wear to the black title block with no wear to the bright gold lettering. The blue top edge has a few barely perceptible tiny faint spots and is sun-faded to a gray hue, the top edges of the boards are also slightly sun-toned, and the fore edge of the text block is somewhat toned but spotless. Tightly bound, straight and square book with strong, sound hinges. Excellent interior with just very slight tanning to the pastedowns and endpapers. Unmarked flawless text pages except for slight age-toning. No previous owner signature or bookplate. Dust jacket is generally quite bright, clean and unworn but the spine panel is sun-toned to the point of making the white title lettering illegible and has three small faint clear liquid stains. Also, a touch of slight wear at the spine ends. Front panel has one tiny 1/8" closed tear and a tiny stray mark from an ink pen at the bottom edge. Rear panel has just one tiny faint stain, some slight surface wear, and three small closed tears (1/8", 1/4" and 1/2") at the top edge. White inner flaps have a thin strip of sun-toning along the edges and a small faint stain on the rear flap and are otherwise flawless. Jacket is protected in a new archival mylar cover. .

Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process.
