FIRST EDITION 1783, parallel text in English and French, 4to, approximately 270 x 210 mm, 10½ x 8½ inches, additional engraved pictorial title page with French text under half page engraving and 11 hand coloured engraved plates, (several images on each plate) drawn from nature by James Barbut (Jaques Barbut), engraved title, printed title, pages:xx including list of subscribers, followed by 2 pages Apology, 1-101 plus blank page unnumbered, bound in full tree calf, rebacked in modern calf, maroon gilt lettered label and gilt decoration between raised bands to spine, gilt leaf scroll to edges of covers. Small hole page 87/88 repaired with archival tape with loss of a few words and letters, affecting the English text on recto and the French text on verso, slightly affecting the understanding of 5 short lines, offsetting to printed title from engraved title, offsetting to text from colour plates, colour plates clean, some light age-browning, some shallow nicks to fore-edges, hardly noticeable, evidence of removal of book-plate or label from front pastedown, endpapers and pastedowns a little dusty and lightly crinkled, last pastedown has small craze at outer edge, otherwise a very good copy.
