George McClellan was an important American soldier and officer during the American Civil War and the Mexican-American War. He published a number of works on his involvement in the military, such as his 'Manual of Bayonet Exercise'. This soldier's manual was written based on the French fencing techniques of Gomard and includes numerous full-page illustrations depicting footwork and attack positions.

Usually found in green decorated cloth boards. Gilt stamped titles and spine decoration. Top of pages gilt. Inside pastedowns and flyleaves also marbled. Six full page illustrations protected by tissue guards. Not paginated. Previous owners' signature and stamp on the first plain flyleaf, otherwise clean and unmarked internals. Except for slight shelfwear and scuffing of cover edges, in fine condition. Binding is square and tight.
