Privately bound book of 34 sheet music selection. All selections were printed prior to 1858.
The book belonged to Adelaide "Addie" Weed, of Franklinville in Cattaraugus County New York. Miss Weed (1841-1921) has written her name and the date August 1858 on the front free endpaper.
Later in life Miss Weed was married to Marvel Crowley of Franklinville. I do not know much else about her, other than she must have been a barrel of fun whenever a piano was available.
The book is approximately 14 inches high by 11 inches wide, and folio bound. It contains 34 sheet music selections. 27 of the 34 include lithographed cover sheets. 4 of those 27 cover sheets incorporate color illustrations.
Condition of the book is Good. The binding is sound. The top three inches of the leather backstrip is cracked at the front board joint, but both boards are firmly attached. The inside pages are printed on the thick, high rag content paper typical of the period. There is light to moderate foxing throughout the inside pages, which does not affect readability of the score sheets. Occasional light pencil notations (numbers) can be found on a few of the score sheets.
The selections are either undated, or dated between 1835 and 1856.
The titles are:
The Five Belles Polka - with illustrated cover sheet, published by S.T. Gordon (no other examples found listed online)
Annen Polka
Saturday Night Polka (dramatic cover sheet graphic)

Philadelphia: G.E. Blake, 1810. Very Good. 15, [1] p.: music for piano; 32 cm. Disbound from a larger volume. Music for piano only. At foot of title page is a 3.5 x 4.5 cm. label with engraving of a fortepiano, violin, and harp: "Sold at P. Hardt's Book & Music Store, York, Pa." No date of publication. George E. Blake (1775-1871) was a music publisher in Philadelphia from 1803 to 1860 or later, much of that time at the address given here, 13 S. 5th St. A monthly literary magazine, The Village Museum, was published by P. Hardt in York, Pa., from 1810 to 1814. This was probably the same Peter Hardt who was active as a printer in York from 1815 to 1819, and who published the York Recorder from 1818 to 1821. This was probably published between 1810 and 1819, most likely around 1810. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: disbound; lightly soiled.

New York: Daniel Dana, 1855. First edition. 3/4 leather. Very Good. 4 3/4 x 6 5/8 inches. x + [2] + 94. Title page in red and black. Bound with: The Psalter Noted, London: Novello and Co., 1855. [2] + 245 numbered pages. Bound in 3/4 black calf which is worn and scuffed. Rebacked with original spine and gilt title relaid and endpapers renewed. Thomas Helmore, 1811 - 1890, was a teacher and choirmaster. Helmore's publications reflect his belief that plainsong was the perfect form of congregational singing, and include the Psalter Noted (1849), the Manual of Plainsong (1850), and the Hymnal Noted (1851), a collection of plainsong melodies with translations of the original texts by J. M. Neale (with whom Helmore also collaborated in two collections of carols). Helmore became the recognized authority on plainsong in Anglican circles. ODNB. A very good clean and complete copy of these two scarce works.
