Description:
Background: The Jackson Automotive Company was known for its extraordinarily well built cars; particularly, their luxury models built in 1914 with the Jackson Imperial at $1885.00 being their largest and most expensive and while sales were made all across the Eastern United States, the New York sales division was where the greatest number of sales took place. Earlier their focus was on racing cars and in 1908 the Jackson entry led at the Indianapolis 500 which was stopped at 235 miles due to poor track conditions and a deadly wreck; therefore, the organizers refused to declare a winner. After entering three race cars in the 1911 Indianapolis 500 they moved to emphasizing beautiful cars instead of the racing variety and at one time had 500 works producing 2,000 cars a year before the assembly line concept was introduced. E.A. Dorflinger with whom they worked closely and whose letters are in this collection was known for his craftsmanship and entrepreneurial life. Among the enclosed papers is the… Read More

Contents include: AC Ace and Aceca Leaf Sprung AC Cobra 260 and 289 427 Cobra and AC 289 From jacket: "Exquisitely good-looking, hand made and quite reasonably fast, the AC Ace was launched in 1954 as a sports car of rare culture. It was to evolve through many guises: Bristol and Ford six-cylinder engines were fitted to endow a stronger punch, an elegant fixed-head couple arrived in the shape of the Aceca, and Carroll Shelby's Ford V8 transplant created the awe inspiring Cobra. Fifteen years after it's introduction, the Ace had metamorphosed into the fearsome Cobra 427, the fastest road car of its era. Yet in all this time a tiny number - just over 2000 - of Aces, Acecas and Cobras were built... Drawing from factory records as well as the accumulated knowledge of respected owners and enthusiasts, this book provides the evidence… Read More

The original 1914 self-published softcover book. 78 pages plus end leaves. Extremely uncommon.Condition of the book is Acceptable. See photos. The softcover wraps show moderate wear. Both the front and back covers have partial tears at their spine joints, but are still attached. The spine itself also has some loss of paper. The text block of the book is complete. The first leaf, and the last leaf, appear to have previously detached from the staple binding, and have been glued in place (an amateurish repair, unfortunately). The last listing photo shows where 'overgluing' of the back leaf has resulted in an edge tear to the inside portion of that leaf. Inside pages are otherwise in good condition, with occasional edge wear. They include many illustrations and full page plates. In sum, a rare and important book, in less than good condition, but still readable.
