Includes unpaginated photographic plates by Blanche Henrey. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as inscriptions, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and creasing. Light scratches. Jacket is noticeably rubbed and marked overall.

The authors, both distinguished writers, have produced a morale-boosting book which has a stylish silvery logo on its front cover. With col bookplate inscribed 'from D. Cunliffe & Mrs Edmondson, Christmas 1944' (Dora Cunliffe and Mrs Nanny Edmondson of Nelson, Lancs., mother of the original owner). Text lightly annotated in pencil with plate numbers, which the authors omitted from the original edition.
