AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED. ( HOLOGRAPH, ALS ).

by GODDEN, Rumer.:

  • Used
17th January 1954.. 1954, handwritten in ink on 2 sides of her personal headed notepaper with the Pollards, Whiteleaf, Princes Risborough address, 200 x 160 mm, 8 x 6¼ inches, 23 lines. Addressed to Mr Keigwin, that is R.P. Keigwin translator of 80 of Hans Andersen's tales. Godden thanks him for finding the time to read "the Tuborg book which fits my purpose exactly". She also thanks him for "Heartbreak" (Hans Andersen), both books translated by Jean Hersholt (1886 –1956, a Danish-born actor who lived in the United States, where he was a leading film and radio talent, major collector of Andersen, translator of over 160 stories). "I admit I don't like the style and think those you cannot do. I shall drop out. How I came to send you our Swineherd instead of The Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep I do not know. (perhaps much study that night had made me fuddled) and I apologise deeply. The latter story is now reduced to a few lines so I need not bother you with it and shall not quote Good For Nothing but shall speak of the story". She goes on to ask Keigwin where his translations can be obtained, as they are not displayed in the shops and people have asked her how they can get them. "I hope very much that the book will give the translations a little publicity but this won't be much use if people can't buy them.... I hope, too, to do a broadcast at some time and to speak of you then... if you will allow it". Godden is referring to her biography of Hans Andersen which was published in 1954. She thanks him again and signs "Yours sincerely, Rumer Godden". Folded once, tiny smudge to signature, otherewise clean. Very good. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE, FURTHER IMAGES ON REQUEST. POSTAGE AT COST.
