Dust jacket not price clipped, darkened a little around the rear edges, with several little tears and creases around the edges. Nice clean copy overall. First edition.

Spine recased, ribbed spine with gilt title and decoration, gilt latin moto and decoration to front board, marbled page edges and end papers. Boards original, worn and well aged, but expertly integrated into the spine, top darkening, foxing throughout, exlibris to front pastedown.

Contemporary brown full leather, red sprinkled edges. Covers worn and rubbed, sympathetically rebacked some time ago, 5 raised bands, 2 gilt-stamped leather spine labels, corners rubbed. Mild foxing, offsetting from the ink to some signatures more than others, plate 24 has small 'v' shape missing in white space not affecting the engraving. Text in Latin and primarily in 2 columns.

New York: Random House, 1987. 1st Edition. Cloth. Good/Good. Quarto. Orange cloth decorated in cream with clear mylar jacket lettered in black. This copy signed by Schnabel on the endpaper "Julian Schnabel Sept 15 Toronto" in silver marker. This is a rough copy that has lots of wear with a shaken and loose binding (but holding) Mylar is torn at the top. There is an ink name and bookplate on the same endpaper that Schnabel has signed. A rough copy but its all there.

Dust jacket chipped at corners, some wear to edges and a larger chip in title , affecting the first four letters in title at upper left corner. A clean dust jacket overall, scarce in jacket. A nice copy.

Head of spine at corners a bit rubbed, green mottled paper boards with light edgewear. All edges speckled green. First edition with illustrations by Gavarni, finely engraved on wood by Breviere and Nouvion. A very good copy despite some foxing and spotting throughout. Some plates lightly numbered in pencil. Tissue guards to each plate. Tight and square copy. Very good.

Three (3) pages with rusty imprint of a paperclip and a couple pages with light folds to corners otherwise a clean and square copy. Dust jacket not price clipped, with a bit of wear to edges, a few short rips otherwise clean and very good. Rather a pretty good copy of a rare title attributed to English epidemiologist and statistician who pioneered the randomized clinical trial and, together with Richard Doll, was the first to demonstrate the connection between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. Hill is widely known for pioneering the "Bradford Hill" criteria for determining a causal association. [wikipedia].
