Description:
BAIRD, Henry Carey. CABINET MAKER'S ALBUM OF FURNITURE. Philadelphia: Henry Carey Baird, 1868. Small oblong folio (7 x 10 3/4 inches Publisher's cloth. Printed title leaf, leaf listing plates, 48 lithograph plates. First edition. Baird's pattern book was the third such work published in America and one of most pivotal books in shaping American taste. It included a comprehensive ra of items from bureaus, desks, wardrobes, chairs, bookcases, tables, and beds. The style incorporated American colonial design with French and European tast and was heavily influenced by Desire Gulimard's French pattern books. The amalgam of tastes was largely created by Joseph Bonaparte (the elder brother Napoleon) constructing a magnificent house, Point Breeze, twenty-five miles north of Philadelphia. He greatly influenced the monied society that hovered around him, bringing with him sophisticated tastes in furniture not commonly seen before on this side of the Atlantic. A very nice copy with sporadic foxing--some light,… Read More

Description:
1566 1ed Serlio Architecture Italian Renaissance ROME Woodcuts Egypt Pyramids
Sebastiano Serlio was a 16th-century Italian architect whose book 'The Works of Architecture and Perspective' helped establish orders of architecture and design. While Serlio was not the first to publish a book on architecture, this book was the first to be fully illustrated and incorporate woodcut examples of ancient (Roman, Greek, and Egyptian) architecture, geometry and perspective, and construction design.
Each section of this highly desirable 1566 first octavo edition contains a separate title page. There are seemingly countless woodcuts throughout this tome – full-page and in-text views of arches, Roman ruins, Egyptian pyramids, pottery, forts, domes, columns, and entire building facades, all engraved by German engraver Johann Chrieger.

Description:
This library is specialized in primarily residential architecture but also includes general architecture, landscape architecture and a very limited number of interior design titles. It generally spans from c. 1900 to the present, with a small number of late 19th century titles. It is believed that only a single title is a low-quality, print-on-demand edition. Many are unavailable for purchase anywhere. I have been assembling this collection for 50 years. Anyone requesting to examine the collection will have to confirm their identity. I am willing to consider selling individually selected titles.
A number of international titles are from numerous countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia, thus the collection is broadly representative of worldwide architecture. Although a number of common titles are included, some are extremely rare, some valued over $1,000, and many are still shrink wrapped, so there is a broad diversity of titles. An Excel listing is available on request, although ISBN numbers have… Read More
