This set of periodicals was originally bound for the library of one Monseigneur Maurice Baudoux (1902-1988), Officer of the Order of Canada and archbishop of Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. He was awarded the honour of the OC for his work in the western provinces on behalf of French Canada. The binder was the Montréal-based Reliure Deshaies & Associes. The present listing includes 11 bound volumes of periodicals, in orange/brown hardcover, which contain an estimated 16500 pages in total. French language. The sizes vary from 28 - 35 cm tall. Note that there are two gaps in this collection (most of 1962 and 1968). The volumes are, by and large, in Very Good condition. Most of the covers show mild to moderate shelfwear, including but not limited to scrapes and rubbing, and a few are predictably shaken (very thick volumes) but otherwise securely bound without any major defect. Guido de Monte Rochen's Manipulus curatorum is considered the most important of the medieval pastoral manuals. (It was not made obsolete until the Council of Trent in 1566.) It is especially important as a key example of the intersection of religious doctrine and practice. The author attempts to make centuries of theology and canon law comprehensible for the priest of little learning and, in turn, for his parishioners. No other work did this as successfully. Binding slightly bent; title page a bit dusty; a few leaves misnumbered in manuscript; o/w a fine copy with large margins of this rare incunable. No known copies in the United States.

The text is printed in columns almost 14 inches long, embellished by a total of 71 engraved plates and 104 large engraved head- and tailpieces by Landseer, Benjamin West, F. Bartolozzi, J. Heath, W. Skelton, W. Bromley and other have designs by West, Opie, Stothard, W. Hamilton, and De Loutherbourgh.. Paradise Lost was originally published in the year 1667. Early editions such as the one being offered here are very scarce and valuable. This fifteenth edition from 1738 is completely original inside and out. The leather covers show some scuffing, and the gold decor on both front and back covers is still good. There is a former owner's name on the front endsheet, and a few pages have some edge spots. The binding is tight, and the book is mostly as it was when it was published almost three centuries ago.This will make a fine and unique addition to your library of classic literature.
