An old ownership or institutional stamp is present on the title page, the second leaf, leaf T5, and also on the colophon page. Originally published in 1674, Louis Moreri's "Grand Dictionaire Historique" was an encyclopedia focused on historical and biographical articles. The original French and this English edition were critical in giving rise to more important dictionaries, such as Pierre Bayle's "Critical Dictionary."

While this work was highly influential during its time, it was eventually replaced as the preeminent reference work when Diderot's 'Encyclopedia' was printed, but not before going through nearly 20 editions. This 1698 French edition is one of the earliest of this landmark encyclopedia and is notable for being an enormous, four-volume set! Absolutely huge!

26 volumes (Complete 6th Edition in 20 volumes with the Supplementary edition in 6 volumes), 11 inches tall. A soft light brown leather and board with corner pieces with raised bands and very fine gilt lettering. There is some foxing and browning of leaves and pages, raised library embossing on first pages. Some sloughing of binding and blotching. The 6th edition is difficult to find and this is an impressive well cared for set.
