INSCRIBED LATER PRINTING of Dr. Seuss' The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.Published in New York by The Vanguard Press in 1938.Later printing, depiction of hats becoming increasingly larger on front endpapers (and increasingly smaller on rear endpapers). This copy is INSCRIBED by the author on the verso of the front free end paper; inscription reads: For Mary Beth from Rose and Tom, along with best wishes from Dr. Seuss. Book very good, previous owner's inscription on front free end paper, some wear along edges. DJ very good, price-clipped, some wear along edges, some small pieces missing especially at spine ends. Book comes in specially made cloth slipcase. We will provide a certificate of authenticity for this item.

Synopsis

The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins is a children's book, written by Dr. Seuss and published in 1938. Unlike the majority of Dr. Seuss's books, it is written in prose rather than rhyming and metered verse. The characters of Bartholomew and King Derwin appear again in a later book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Set in feudal times, the story begins in the Kingdom of Didd, when King Derwin is riding through a street past Bartholomew Cubbins, a poor boy in the market.
