A less than pristine but very readable copy of this thick set of conference papers (the book is 1971 pages long and includes an index), which offers a snapshot of progressive educational thinking in its time. Ink underlining is noted in the chapter devoted to Black education in the South and a chapter on German methods of education, none elsewhere. There are several plates illustrating items used in classrooms for woodworking shop. Teacher training, rural education, experimental methods, curriculum at all levels, from kindergarten up, discipline, school boards, children's love of nature--the list of topics is endless. The binding is loose at the front hinge, but otherwise holding up. The boards are faded and stained somewhat, nothing alarming. The paper used has held up well. It is toned but not brittle.
