Paris: Alp. Leclere fils, Libraire-Editeur, circa [1850].. [1850].. Fair. - Octavo, contemporary period brown calf with gilt ruled frames with formal decorated corners on the front & rear cover. All edges are marbled. The rubbed and scuffed covers are detached and the spine has perished. Half-title, title page, 2 page alphabetical table of contents and 84 fine engraved plates illustrating the coats of arms of French nobility. Also illustrated with 5 engraved genealogical charts tracing the ancestry of specific French nobles depicting each forebear's coats of arms. An early Madrid bookseller's blindstamp is present on the half-title. The edges of the front endpaper are chipped and the first few leaves are darkened. The top edges of the leaves are slightly darkened and there is some very minor occasional foxing throughout. Internally very good and well-worth rebinding. <p>From the library of Vte. Arthur de Bizemont, with his bookplate on the front pastedown.<p>Plate #23 is not present and appears not to have ever been published. It is not called for in the Alphabetical table of contents.<p>George Gatfield "Guide to Printed Books and Manuscripts Relating to English and Foreign Heraldry and Genealogy" dates the book as circa 1850.<p>RARE. Only 2 copies are listed in WorldCat.
