Description:
In Verona, Per A. Scolari. 1749-1750. Hard Cover. The first three volumes of what was eventually an eight-volume set. Vol I: 4 p.l., 388 p.; Vol II: [6], 395-838, [2] p.; Vol. III: 325, [326-327] pages; illustrations; quarto; 27 cm. These historical notices of the churches of Verona are concerned with their architectural history and the paintings and other artwork contained in each. Biancolini published his most significant documents in these early volumes. He continued to add to this foundation and published volumes through the eighth, which appeared in 1771. Schlosser-Magnino (p. 567) calls for 7 volumes, but the most complete set we could find, the one in the Avery Collection at Columbia, has eight in nine volumes. This is a foundation source for the study of architecture in Verona. Very good, untrimmed copy in contemporary cardboard. Stock#OB120.

The Lion and Unicorn Press, London, 1975. Book. Very Good. Soft cover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First edition, limited to just 100 numbered copies, signed by both Casson and Betjeman on the first leaf (this being #9). Designed by Nigel Paige and produced and printed at the Royal College of Art, London. 4to. Unpaginated. Card wrappers with a wire spiral binding at the upper edge (and thereby resembling an artist's sketchbook). Twenty-five watercolour sketches, originally commissioned by 'The Illustrated London News', with drawing captions and both Betjeman's two-page introduction and Casson's brief preface reproduced in facsimile of the author's holograph. The lower edges lightly spotted, encroaching just a fraction to occasional leaf margins, and with just a hint of very faint soiling to the upper wrapper. Very good indeed. Murdoch-Kerr Press, n. 1904. Hardcover. Good. Murdoch-Kerr Press, 1904. Good. plates missing, 13.5 x 10.5This is an extremely rare book and an extremely important one ..It is important because Osterling did some very important work for the moguls of Western Pennsylvania and well as many government agencies. It si rare because so few copies are extant...I have never seen this work for sale and the only other copy that I know of owned by a library. Unfortunately the portfolio of 38 images is missing 8 plates. The extant portion of the book is in good to very good condition, including the advertisement in the back of the book. The would be a wonderful gift for the collector especially the collector with architectural interest. It would make a wonderful display in the vestibule of a business. and would also be a generous donation to you favorite architectural educational institution.

It was designed and built between 1922 and 1925 as a second house for George Fox Steedman, a St. Louis industrialist. Thought principally to be the work of George Washington Smith, the architect, Steedman himself generated many ideas during the initial design phase that were both a blessing and curse to Smith. Steedmans vision prevailed, and throughout the decade following the houses initial completion, he continued to rework both house and garden, engaging the architects Lutah Maria Riggs, Edwards, Plunkett & Howell, and Floyd Brewster, and garden… Read More
