[Vernon, California?]: Pacific Coast League, 1911. Softcover. Very Good. Octavo. [8]pp. Stapled wrappers. One horizontal fold, the front wrap age-toned, some marginal tears on a couple of pages, very good. Program for a game between the Vernon Tigers of Vernon, California, and the Los Angeles Angels. The program features photos of several players, center score card/roster pages with pre-printed players' names, ballpark rules: "Bottle and cushion throwing prohibited," and some amusing baseball related advertising. Founded in 1903, the PCL was the highest level of western baseball until the Dodgers and Giants moved to California in the 1950s. Vernon was one of only two cities in Los Angeles County that was "wet," and with alcoholic beverages as an attraction, the Tigers attracted big crowds by the standards of the day. They weren't bad either, winning three pennants during their 17-year history. Very early memorabilia from the PCL is scarce.

First UK printing of these two volumes giving the history of the British Settlements in North America. 568 pages in first volume and 416 pages in second, light to medium foxing on some pages, a little heavier on endpapers, lengthy neat ink comments on front endpaper, few other ink notations on endpapers and ink annotations on a few pages. Bookplates of John Peyto Verney and Robert John Verney, both Lord Willoughby de Broke, in each volume.. Original fold out map opposite title page in volume one, this map is in very good condition. Heavily rubbed on covers and spine; worn to boards at cover edges and corners; spine leather worn/deteriorated, raised bands exposed; covers fragile but still attached; text block tightly bound; 19th century bookplate on front pastedown; contemporary owner name in black ink (King?) on title page at top edge; interior supple and clean. Note that title page gives 'Part I for 1776' and index is for 'Volume II' but clearly relates to this volume. Covers many events in all colonies.
