About This Item
(10), 1040 pp. description of France, revised and enlarged by the author's son, François Du Chesne, arranged by provinces, (25) pp. index. Some moderate staining and toning throughout, some spots of damp-staining to title page and approximately first 30 pages. 8vo. Vellum. Light soiling, vellum has stiffened and volume no longer closes all the way or opens flat. Paris (Petit-pas) 1624. Identical to the 1648 edition which is, according to Dufour's bibliography of Paris, the best edition of the voluminous work that begins with a description of the capital and her region allegedly taken from Belleforest's "Cosmographie." In spite of this, the author, court historiographer to Louis XIV, has been called "the father of French history.
