Finely illustrated with line drawing on the title page and 20 full page colour lithographs by Elinor Darwin accompanying the verses of Bernard Darwin. Original beige paper covered boards with wave, fish and border decorations and reproduction of one of the book's illustrations in blue on front cover. A very good, bright and clean copy with small amount of chipping to the top of the spine and minimal rubbing and bumping to the extremities.

All present, (including the rare Frontis-piss), with the exception of the Richardson censored plate. Later half calf, cloth. Spine in six, with raised banding, gilt lettering and rules. Minor rubbing/bumping to spine and corners. Shepherd Boy relaid onto larger paper.

Top edge red, xii 288 (2) with 16 tipped in coloured plates with captioned tissue guards and 88 black and white illustrations. The boards are clean and bright with some fading to the spine and a little pushing to the spine tips. Internally, there is a gift inscription dated 1916 to the front free endpaper, a small 1 cm bruise to the bottom edge of p176 not affecting the image and with no loss and occasional very light marking.
