Beron." Another "Capucinorum in Sursee" also "loci Capu. in Schyfen". Three small pin sized worm holes to TP soon diminishing to one and then none after the first few pages of text. Remarkably clean and tight in contemporary vellum binding, contents evenly toned. Paginated 1-320, and 371-425 pp, yet contents are consecutively numbered from p.320 to 371 and appear complete. SCARCE, especially so in such lovely condition. . First German Edition. Vellum. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

All edges gilt. A fine copy with some wear to corners and joins of binding; a few scattered underscorings and marginalia in an early hand. First appearance of Pierre Pithou's edition of Juvenal and Persius, based on the discovery of a 9th-century manuscript in the Benedictine abbey of Lorsch. Title page with ownership inscription (? Daniel Bower) dated 1698, [664] leaves ([par]8 A-FFff8 4G4 HHhh-NNnn8 OOoo4), last page blank. Marginal numbers, not column numeration, are probably references to the unabridged Stephanus Thesaurus. *Abridged edition of Henri Estienne's Thesaurus Graecae linguae, compiled by Johann Scapula. The printer Guillaume Laimarie was active in Geneva 1578-1598.

Starting with a question, there are LXXXIIII propositions and Appendix. Some creases to titlepage and margin of one other leaf else exceptionally clean and crisp. *Sebastian Bloss was Professor of Medicine at Heidelberg in 1584, later at Ulm and finally in Tuebingen where he died.His most famous work was on the plague. Scarce - only 3 copies in German libraries none in the UK,but not in GM, Durling, Waller, Wheeler or Wellcome.

The Second work lacks titlepage and first 3 prelim leaves (supplied in facsimile), original text here begins on p9 with the Preface thus 9-317pp +[26 of 31]pp of Index ending with letter T, lacking final 3 leaves. *History of the Crusades in Latin, followed by Melchior Goldast's collection of writers in Latin on the History of Suevia.

Printer's mark of flying horse over cornucopia & hand from cloud holding caduceus to titlepage + same printer's mark slightly larger to verso of last leaf + floral, foliate & historiated head- & tail-piece & initials.. Folio handsome 18th century gilt ruled and sprinkled calf with 6 raised bands, the compartments & bands gilt but without a title on the spine (small chip out of head of spine/edges sl.rubbed). All edges sprinkled with red dye [8]pp prelims + 320pp + [28]pp index, publisher's imprint and large Wechel printer's mark. Some marginal damp marks to top corner but not affecting the strength and crispness of the paper nor the text. Name Fletcher to top of titlepage. A very few notes or marks to margin. *History of Louis XI & Charles VIII by de Commynes, shortened history of memorable events by Froissart and a further work, by de Seissel. Scarce volume of Medieval French history OCLC locates only 6 copies.

Alexander Neville was a 16th-century scholar known for his studies in antiquities. His portfolio of works isn't as extensive as other English scholars from this era; however, his work 'Furoribus Norfolcensium Ketto Duce' is considered the best work on Kett's Rebellion of 1549.
Kett's Rebellion took place in Norfolk, when Edward VI's forces suppressed Robert Kett and his rebels who were destroying fences of wealthy property owners. Neville frustrated many Welsh readers who took offense to Neville calling Welsh soldiers 'lazy sheep'.
