About This Item

Thames & Hudson, London, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good/Fair. Editor's note, Audubon and Wildlife, wildlife since Audubon. The text is illustrated with 27 coloured plates and 80 monochrome plates. Pink coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured embossed publisher's logo to the front panel; and, gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper (wraparound), again by Audubon, with black coloured titles to the front panel. John James Audubon was a 19th century American naturalist / artist, whose depiction of American wildlife, both animals and birds, has rarely been rivalled. This book is a rendering of his artistry, and his notes that it took as he went to the various regions of America. Softening, rubbing and some fraying of the backstrip edge and book corners; bumping to the top book corners and the underlying board to the lower book corners and lower backstrip edge is visible. Some marks to the book panels with age toning and stains and very faint foxing to the textblock edges. Age toning of the pages with offset tanning and light foxing to the end pages. Previous owners name to the top right-hand corner of the free front end page; and, there are a few pink marks also present to that panel. The dustwrapper is certainly showing signs of wear and age – please see photograph. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and to the backstrip edges. Creasing and rubbing to the dustwrapper edges and there is a 2 inch tear to the top left-hand corner of the front panel, a 3 inch tear to the top edge of the rear panel and the lower right-hand corner of the rear panel has a jagged piece missing. Sunning and rubbing of the dustwrapper with some foxing to the fold over panels. First English Edition. Size: Square Quarto. [7], VII - VIII, 256 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Natural History & Resources; Art; United States; Animals & Birds. Inventory No: 0129896. .
