Description:
Los Angeles: Ward Richie, 1929. Octavo. 2pp. This is the second production noted in the bibliography of premier Southern California printer, Ward Richie. The edition consisted of 150 copies; it was a student project, done while Richie attended Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles. The choice of a Carl Sandburg poem is significant, as Sandburg and Richie shared a longtime friendship with Los Angeles bookseller and publisher, Jake Zeitlin. This is one of the scarcest of early Sandburg editions. 1printed sheet printed on [2]pages folded laid into 1 printed folded sheet (wrapper) lightly finger soiled with small chip to rear wrap. A very good copy.

London: The Bodley Head, 1989. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). First Edition. SIGNED, INSCRIBED and DATED "July 1993" by Solzhenitsyn in black ink pen directly on the title page (all three in the same pen by Solzhenitsyn himself). First UK edition, first printing, with "First edition published 1972 / This edition 1989" stated at the bottom of the copyright page with no later printing mentioned. First-issue dust jacket with original 18.95 publisher's price on the front flap. NEAR FINE book in FINE dust jacket. All four corners of the book are bumped and there is one very minor bump to the front fore edge. Also, a small blue ink smudge on the top edge of the text block, probably a remainder mark. The book is otherwise Fine. Bright, crisp, clean and unworn, very tight and square. Interior is close to immaculate except for a very slight bend to the tips of the corners of the first several pages. Otherwise flawless pages appearing unread. No previous owner's signature. Dust jacket is bright, crisp, clean and unworn with no sunning and just a slight touch of faint creasing to the corners and top edges of the flaps. Jacket is protected in a mylar cover. Red full-cloth binding with gold lettering on the and spine. 816 text pages followed by a two-page map. Hefty book measuring 9 1/2" x 6 3/8" x 2 1/4". Dark-green dust jacket with an illustration of a wheel on front cover and spine. Newly translated by H.T. Willetts, this is the definitive edition, expanded to nearly twice the length of the original edition of "August 1914" published in 1972. This is the first volume in Solzhenitsyn's multi-part epic, The Red Wheel. .

NY: Basic Books, 1961. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Inscribed copy of this first collected edition of Fuchs' enduring novels about life in Depression-era Brooklyn, "Summer in Williamsburg," "Homage to Blenholt," and "Low Company," originally published in 1934, 1936, and 1937, respectively. Fuchs has lovingly inscribed this copy to Susan Foster, a long-time personal assistant to film and literary mega-agent Irving Paul Lazar, and later Frank Sinatra. The nature of Fuchs and Foster's acquaintance is unknown, though it seems safe to assume that they might have met during Fuchs' long tenure as a Hollywood scriptwriter. His inscription, "From one Brighton Beachcomber to another," also leaves open the possibility that the two had known each other growing up in Brooklyn. Inscribed by Fuchs and signed as "Dan" on the front free endpaper. Octavo (5.75 x 8.25 in.); vii, 380, 301, 314pp.; red cloth boards, gold lettering on spine,…
