About This Item
Denmark, 1934. unbound. 1 page, 8.25 x 5.5 inches, Denmark, May 19, 1934. In this letter, Zahle sends his autograph to an American admirer, in part: "I hereby have the pleasure of complying with your request." He has signed with the desirable "C. Th. Zahle." Light pencil notations and one horizontal fold; still very good condition.

Prime Minister of Denmark during World War I who was thrown out of office in 1920 and deposed by King Christian X for having handed over to the Germans the Danish cities of Schleswig and Flensburg. Zahle felt that both cities had high populations of German refugees and settlers and that Denmark could do without their problem. During World War II Hitler remembered this gesture and allowed Zahle to conduct his affairs in occupied Denmark without Nazi interference bringing further speculation of treasonous behavior. Zahle died three months after the second world war ended and was never made accountable for his actions.
