Kirk. 352pp. Octavo [21 cm] Red cloth over boards with gilt lettering and pictorial stamping in black ink on the front board. Illustrated endpapers. "Holiday Editions of Juvenile Classics" advertisement at the front. Decorated chapter headings. Some areas of abrasion to the extremities; moderate sunning to the spine; hinges soft. With twelve illustrations in color by Maria L. Kirk. Maria Louise Kirk (1860-1938) was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She was the illustrator of over 50 books, the majority of the books being for children. Despite her being a prolific illustrator, not much is known about her life.

Synopsis

At the Back of the North Wind is a children's book by George MacDonald. It was serialized in the children's magazine Good Words for the Young beginning in 1868 and was published in book form in 1871. It is a fantasy centered around a boy named Diamond and his adventures with the North Wind. Diamond travels together with the mysterious Lady North Wind through the nights.
