About This Item

New York: Limited Editions Club, 1932. Hardcover. Minor defects to the leather. About Fine in a close to Fine slipcase. Miguel Covarrubias. Small folio (8-1/2" x 13") bound in full blind-stamped brown leather. Copy #743 of 1500 with beautiful line drawings and color illustrations by Miguel Covarrubias and SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page. The first great novel about Africa by a black writer. Winner of the Prix Goncourt, one of France's highest literary awards, making Maran the first black author to win that honor. One of the more attractive early titles from the press, not often found in acceptable condition let alone as nice as this copy with the leather still supple and bright.
