New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1947. A very good copy in a somewhat worn jacket, with chips at corners, and a loss affecting text along spine panel. 8vo. 55 pages. Original tan cloth; printed dust jacket. Provenance: William Targ, American author, editor, and publisher. FIRST EDITION of Wilbur's first book of poetry, published in an edition of 750 copies. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed to William Targ on the title: "For William Targ / With pleasant recollections of our long-ago meeting / Richard Wilbur Cummington Mass. 1971." And with a fine autograph letter signed ("Richard Wilbur") laid in, to the writer and editor William Targ, 12 October n.y. [but before 1964 when Targ left the firm]. One page, 4to, folded. Wilbur writes to Targ at World Publishing Co. saying that he has reached "a negative conclusion about the Lincoln book. Because it is not quite close enough to my existing techniques and concerns, I'd have to force it and it wouldn't turn out well." Wilbur goes on to suggest some possible alternatives, including Winfield Towley Scott, Anthony Hecht "one of the best younger poets in the country," and Donald Hall. A very fine letter, revealing Wilbur's thoughts on some of his contemporaries.

Description:
1941. SCHWARTZ, Delmore. SHENANDOAH. Norfolk, CT: New Directions, (1941). "Poet of the Month" series. First edition. This verse drama deals with a family's quarrel over the naming of a son, Shenandoah Fish, which is obviously analogous Schwartz's name, about which he was quite sensitive. Inscribed to the poet Theodore Morrison. "Ted, from Delmore, October 1941." Illustrated by Frederico Castellon. Printed by George Hornby at The Domesday Press, New York City. 28 pp. 8vo., plain paper wrappers, wire saddle stitch. In a dark blue dust jacket, illustrated on the upper wrapper in grey-blue. Internally clean and fine; however, the dust jacket is sunned at perimeters and on the lower panel, with some light edgewear. Inscribed copies by Schwartz are uncommon, and this is a very good copy, inscribed by him.

A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. Description:
1657 1ed Poetry of Beauchasteau French Madrigals Christine of Sweden MythologyFrançois de Beauchasteau was a 17th-century French poet who is best remembered for his collection of poems, sonnets, madrigals, and songs. These poems were made famous in 1657, when Beauchasteau who was 12 years old at the time, presented these poems to the King. They were shortly, thereafter, published under the title 'La Lyre du Jeune Apollon' harkening the young poet's work to that of the Muses of Apollo.
This first edition opens with dozens of works of other authors and poets who praised the young poet for his prodigy. In addition to the works of song and poetry, this book includes portrait engravings representative of notable political figures, including one of Christine, Queen of Sweden.

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
