Contains the text of Franklin's The morals of Chess; a commentary on this essay with historical notes; Franklin's other writings on chess, the result of research by the author among his various works; Chess in America to 1859: a bibliography, a revised edition of Fiske's American Chess Bibliography, retaining Fiske's entries but including twice the number of items that Fiske had discovered in 1859; a list of the various printings of The morals'; a further account of the automation chess player, previously mentioned in the historical account; a number of illustrations, including a portrait of Franklin, and a picture of the automation. The bibliography gives full details of each title and locations of copies in selected U S libraries.
Condition: Pages beginning to age tone, author's inscription on front end paper. Jacket lightly soiled, spine ends chipped else a very good copy in like jacket.

The Danish Chess Championship was organized by the Danish Chess Union (DSU) and first held in 1910. A masterclass was first introduced in 1915. But it is only from 1922 that the title of Danish chess champion was introduced, this was the first year also players from Copenhagen joined. The Master Class for 1916 was contested by 8 players. It was won b P F Johner with a score of 5 and tied two through 4 by M Marchand, O. von Lowenborg and H Krause. 5th place was claimed by O Sevensson with 3 points. 6th place was a tie between Johs Giersing and G Nyholm. The last place was regulated to E Jacobson with 1 1/2.
Corners creased, spine and edges sunned, pages still unread else a vary good copy.
