Cover labels rubbed; jacket lightly toned and with a few small spots of wear at extremities but generally in very well-preserved condition. 8vo. xiii, [1], 110, [1] pages. Frontispiece and decorations by Charles Cullen. Original quarter black cloth, blue boards, gold title labels on front cover and spine. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Presentation copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "For John / Amitiés / Countee." The recipient was John Trounstine, a friend from Cullen's days at Harvard, and New York literary agent who at various points represented Arna Bontemps, Erskine Caldwell, Langston Hughes, Dorothy West, and Richard Wright.
