About 8 1/2" x 11" stapled booklet with 88 glossy pages about the ship including photos of the officers and the ship's sponsor, Cindy McCain. There is a 4 page tissue type paper in the center listing the Schedule of Events. The cover states, UNITED STATES SHIP JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) with the McCain Family Crest in the center Commissioning July 2, 1994 Bath, Maine. Inside front cover explains the symbolism of the Crest. Inside back cover has the Navy Hymn. The softcover is somewhat dirty with an ink mark and a paperclip indent. Inside Near Fine. Also includes a bifold 4 page Contributor's Brochure which is very worn along the foredge from being inserted into the booklet - same size.

Profusely illustrated review of the French Navy in the 19th century with engraved title page, 8 finely handcolored plates of men in uniform and 1 of flags of the Nautical Powers, 22 full-page steel engravings of ships and maritime scenes, and over 100 engravings and vignettes in the text by Antoine Leon Morel-Fatio. 240 pp, 31 plates, text in French.The costume plates are handcolored lithographs by the famous Pauquet Brothers after illustrations by Andre Castan, A. Gusman, P. Goyer, Louis, etc., and show ranks from Admiral to Matelot. The steel plates by de Tournemine, E. Isabey, Morel-Fatio, etc., show famous French ships of the line, nautical scenes, historical events.The vignettes by Morel-Fatio show many different types of vessels as well as life on board sailing ships, in the rigging, on deck and below decks.
