1888. SCRIVEN, Elizabeth. CABLE, George W. BONAVENTURE: A Prose Pastoral Of Acadian Louisiana. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1888. Small 8vo., maroon cloth; 314 pages with eight pages of advertisements. First Edition. [BAL 2346]. It is estimated about 10,000 copies were printed. With two unsigned presentations (from different people) on the front endpaper, each signed from a "good friend." The first is to George Percival Scriven, dated Nov. 30, 1889. The second is to "Bruce", dated Washington, May 1924. Scriven is a relative of Elizabeth Scriven, wife of Alfred Corning Clark, son of Singer Sewing Machine founder Edward Clark. With a small bookplate on the front pastedown, signed "Scriven." Good (spine little faded & some wear covers; contents clean & tight with tiny bit of cracking front hinge; some glue & paper residue on front pastedown). $35.00.
