Original marbled papered boards light rubbing spine rebacked with title to spines. Plates are offset to facing text pages but the plates are fine and fresh. Content clean with large margins. An excellent copy. Measures at 16.5 x 12 inches each volume. 95 full page engravings on India paper. Though the front cover lists 98 engravings we believe it to be error and the book stands complete.RIBA catalog matches with 95 plates. With original poetry by Sir Walter Scott. Text page 183/84 of vol. 2 has a large corner torn away at bottom no affect to text else the book is excellent. A scarce copy. Walter Scotts work on the romanticised views of the historic buildings, ruins, and monuments in the English and Scottish borders.

Some foxing is also evident around some of the plate margins. There is a damp stain on the engraved title page of vol. 2, which is not evident on any following pages. An exceptional set in this condition - scans on request. ; 0 pages; 94 plates on India paper [steel] engraved by John Grieg (1803-1853) and illustrated by Luke Clennell (1781-1840) . Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
