About This Item

Boston: Little Brown & Co, 1949. First Edition. One of an unknown number of copies with a tipped in sheet SIGNED by Lea. 8vo. (xvii) 270 pages. Color title page; with numerous black and white illustrations by the author. Fuschia, black and silver cloth with pictorial endpapers in pictorial dust jacket. A fine copy in fine dustjacket; the nicest copy we've seen! Winner of the Carr P. Collins Award of the Texas Institute of Letters for best book by a Texan, this is "...the story of Luis Bellow, 'The Swordsman of Guerreras,' whose profession is the dealing of violent death while subject to it himself, who lives by his body and by his heart." Strikingly illustrated, "it is written with the utmost of economy, and is beautiful in its power." (Life and Literature of the Southwest - Dobie). Scarce in such fine condition.
