Hodder and Stoughton, 1939. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1939. First Printed. 287 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth. Slight cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Pages are lightly tanned throughout. Front free endpaper cut out. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Light tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Water staining to rear board.

An early impression of this Bulldog Drummond novel, originated by Sapper and continued by Gerard Fairlie after his death, with the original, scarce dust wrapper. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the original, unclipped, very scarce dust wrapper.Fourth impression. First published in 1939. The Bulldog Drummond series was originated by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author who wrote under the pseudonym 'Sapper' due to the fact that serving officers in the British Army were not allowed to publish under their own name. Gerard Fairlie was an English writer and scriptwriter, on whom McNeile supposedly based Bulldog Drummond. The usual offsetting to both sets of end-papers and some foxing to the fore-edge overall VG indeed. In the rare first issue D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The VG D/W is creased, frayed at the spine ends and with some foxing to the verso of the spine but overall in nice condition. Photographs/scans available upon request.
