Map illustrated endpapers, both different, front end paper:  showing detail of an ordinance survey map, 1880-1990 of Havant and its environs, rear end paper:  showing detail ordnance survey map, 1880-90, showing macro view of Havant and its adjacent neighbours. List of illustrations, acknowledgements, introduction by authors and the aforementioned bibliography. The text is illustrated with historic black and white photography. Dark red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Sepia toned photographic dustwrapper with red and white coloured titles to the front panel and black and white coloured titles to the backstrip. The town of Havant began as a Roman settlement, where two ancient trackways crossed with a source of pure water through numerous springs in the adjacent area. The area has almost certainly been inhabited continuously from that time. This book celebrates a bustling, industrious and industrial town with photographs from the late 19th century up to the middle parts of the 20th century. Minor softening of the backstrip with rubbing of the book corners. Gift inscription to the half title page. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and a little rubbing of the dustwrapper panels.
