Original Artwork. [c.1910]. A wonderful original gouache and watercolour painting on paper. The image measures 28 x 21.5 cms, signed by Louis Wain to the bottom right corner. A black cat in sporting attire, including a red tartan cap and breeches, sits on a stool fishing at the riverside. In fine condition. This painting is illustrated in the end credits of the 2022 biographical film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, directed by Will Sharpe and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Claire Foy, Sharon Rooney, Andrea Riseborough and Toby Jones. First edition. 2018 Caldecott Honor Book! An older white cat is a family's sole companion until it is joined by a younger black cat. The white cat welcomes the black cat. Over the course of the story, the two cats age, until the white cat dies. The white cat is mourned by the family and the black cat, until one day a new white kitten joins the family and the black cat teaches him, just as he had been when he was little.
