A fine bookseller's catalogue of American authors, including poets, philosophers, historians, statesmen, essayists, dramatists, novelists, travelers, and humorists. A run of Poe's works included Tamerlane. Leon & Brother was located under the 5th Avenue Hotel, at 23rd Street.

1885. LEON and Brother. Catalogue of First Editions of American Authors. Bound in 3/4 leather. New York: Leon & Brother, 1885. Very good. First edition. A very good copy. The first bookseller's catalogue devoted exclusively to first editions of American authors. The firm of Leon and Brother is something of a mystery. The brothers are originally believed to have come from Spain. It is doubtless that the catalogue, printed on fine paper, was expensive to produce and must have been issued in a reasonably large edition for it is not uncommon today. The year after this catalogue appeared, a sale of their stock was held at C.F. Libbie & Co. in Boston, and the Leons seemed to have disappeared.
