B&W Illustrations Sir Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) , a British artist, designer, and photographer, published many books of photographic studies. His subjects included the royal family, ballet, fashion, and cities of the world. His drawings and photographs illustrated many books. He also designed scenery and costumes for ballets, motion pictures, operas, and theatrical productions, including Lady Windermere's Fan, Quadrille, My Fair Lady, and Gigi. In addition, he wrote a play, The Gainsborough Girls .

Synopsis

SIR CECIL BEATON was born in Hampstead in 1904. Throughout his life he was a diarist, painter and interior designer but most recognised as a fashion and portrait photographer for Vogue, Vanity Fair and LIFE . He won several theatre and film awards, including two Academy Awards for his stage and costume design for My Fair Lady , and was knighted in 1972. He died at home in Wiltshire in 1980.
