  • Used
Paris: A. Sirot/Editions Henry, 1949. Small folio. Original printed dust-jacket over stiff wrappers; 39 [7] pp. collecting the lyrics of 8 songs composed and sung in Buchenwald by Chanoir, a French political prisoner, illustrated with 16 original hors texte lithographic plates (7 in duotone, 9 in black and white) by P. Jardel as well as a full-color frontispiece portrait of a Buchenwald inmate by Templier. The text includes a preface by Rèmy as well as the poignant transciptions of Chanoir's song lyrics. Strikingly illustrated with highly skillful and expressionistic images by Jardel interpreting the horrors of daily life as experienced at Buchenwald. Very scarce; as of March 2021, OCLC locates only a single holding in a North American institution and only 3 total holdings worldwide.
