Bound in publisher's terra-cotta cloth, stamped in blind and gilt, hinges starting, some offsetting to the plates. A very good set. Colas 2806; Lipperheide 1005. Novelist and social historian, Stone was raised in Manchester, UK. She wrote several social novels as well as this work and another on needlework (1840). Mrs. Stone discusses all facets of fashion and taste, from banquets and food to attire to theatre to fashionable watering places. Much attention is devoted to the lives and habits of the rich and famous, with descriptive vignettes of numerous "stars of fashion.".
