Kerala, India: Original Manuscript Circa 18th - 19th Century. From the Collection of Jacques Marchais [1887-1948] who in 1938 opened an Indian and Tibetan Art Gallery in Manhatten, to fund her desire to build a center of Tibetan Art on her property in Staten Island, showing her label on the wooden cover. The polished, bevelled wooden boards measure 9-1/2" long by 1-1/4" top to bottom. The stack measures 2-1/4" thick with the wooden covers, and 1-3/4" thick without the wooden covers, with a jute cord running through two holes in the book. With 82 leaves total, which were inscribed with a sharp stylus, then covered in ink made from oil and lampblack, wiping off the excess to reveal the Malayalam script. A few small annotations in pencil, in English, reveal some of the translations, *"Errhine for Coma" [Errhine means to be stuffed into the nose] *"Fever pill" *"Cure for sundry genital disorders" and *"Ginger powder". New York:: Fleet Publishing Corporation, , (1964.). SIGNED hardcover first edition -. Fair condition only in a fair dustjacket (bumped at several corners, also bumped and dented at bottom center of front cover - hard enough to have created a short split in the board; jacket is price-clipped and has several ragged tears and associated creasing along the bottom edge of the front panel, along with internal tape repairs. . First printing. SIGNED by the book's subject with his birth name, "Cassius Clay" -- a rare signature and especially so in this rather hard-to-find book, the first published biography of the great heavyweight champion. Issued later in the same year in which Clay took the heavyweight crown away from Sonny Liston (in their February 1964 bout), the book includes an account of the turbulent months that followed -- including the new champ's relationship with Malcolm X and his conversion to Islam, the controversy over his draft status, his much-publicized trip to…

New York: Random House, 1957. FIRST EDITION. No. 438 OF 450 SIGNED COPIES. 205 x 130 mm. (8 x 5 1/8"). 5 p.l., 371 pp. FINE CONTEMPORARY BROWN CRUSHED MOROCCO, raised bands, spine gilt in compartments with filigree cornerpieces, gilt titling, turn-ins with decorative gilt roll, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Petersen A34c. â—†Just a breath of wear to the binding, but a near-mint copy, pristine internally. This is a desirable signed copy of the second volume in Faulkner's "Snopes" trilogy, a work written near the end of his storied career. As ANB observes, "Faulkner drew on the history of his region, its brief rise and its rapid fall; on its rich oral traditions, "the rag-tag and bob-ends of old tales and talkings" (as he called them in 'Absalom, Absalom!') that he had begun gathering from the air in his seemingly misspent boyhood and youth; on its customs, mores, folkways, and dialects; and even on its vegetation, geography, and wildlife. Faulkner's fiction conveys a sense of the past and its force.".
