This is a very good copy of this portfolio in green paper-covered boards, containing 16 pages of text and notes and 30 photographic plates and 6 hand-colored watercolor plates. The text and plates generally very good, 2 plates with some foxing. The portfolio has some damp marks to the top corners, otherwise very good. This work appears to be a record of the author's collection of architectural elements and decorative art from his many excursions to the Orient. The photos appear to be of the author's own quarters at 30 Rue des Mathurins. A late work of undoubted "Orientalism", it sets out to create an atmosphere of The Thousand and One Nights. New York: Payson and Clarke Ltd., 1929. This is a better than very good hardcover copy in the exceedingly rare dust jacket. The dust jacket has the same color scheme as the cloth covers of the book: pale blue background with a vertical stripe, red on the jacket, orange on the cloth, within which are the stencilled letters of the title. The title is printed in red on the spine and has faded. There are four very old pieces of clear tape at the two bottom corners of the front cover and the top of the front at the spine, going around the back cover and the last a small one on the top edge of the back cover. Also a small fragment lost from the front panel top right corner. Even with these defects, still very handsome and presentable. The cloth covers are immaculate. This is the first American edition translated from the 8th French edition of Urbanisme by Frederick Etchells with his introduction. Text and plates completely clean. Fold-out illustration fine. Illustrated throughout in black & white. 4to, 10" high X 8" wide, 301 pages. . Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
