About This Item

NEW Folio Society UK Edition UK/First Printing of Book Two of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin!

A Clash of Kings Book Two of A Song of Ice and Fire (sequel to A Game of Thrones) by George R.R. Martin Hardcover First Folio Society Edition - First Printing Folio Society UK 2020. Illustrated by Jonathan Burton.

Bound in three-quarter blocked cloth with a printed and blocked cloth front board; Set in Vendetta with Esmeralda as display; 888 pages in total over two volumes; 12 full page and 4 double-page colour illustrations; Printed in black & gold throughout; 8 illustrated chapter; openers and 9 illustrated house sigils; 5 kings in their courts and 8 family trees in volume two; bound in blocked cloth; Printed endpapers; Coloured tops; Blocked and printed slipcase with printed illustration inside.

True first edition was published by HarperCollins UK in 1996 which runs about $2500+ followed by the Bantam first US edition which runs about $650+ Two hardcover volumes housed in a matching slipcase without jacket as issued, typically of FS. Even though this copy is in shrink-wrap, I was guaranteed by the publisher that this is a first-printing copy.

Fine in Fine slipcase as NEW in shrink-wrap. A beautiful copy.

Edition Note: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin was first published in hardcover in the UK and US in 1996. Some controversy exists regarding which edition appeared first. The UK edition published by HarperCollins features stunning dust jacket artwork by Jim Burns, while the miserable US edition just had an outline of a throne. (Apparently there was alternative artwork for the US edition which was rejected by the publisher and they didn't have time to commission new artwork. Some advance reading copies have the unused artwork.) It has since been reprinted many times by Bantam US in hardcover (but as far as I can tell not in the UK). In 2014, Subterranean Press issued the first signed-limited and illustrated edition of GOT in two-volumes and slipcase which now runs about $1000+. This is the first UK illustrated edition of the book as far as I can tell.

ALSO: The first picture is of the actual item for sale while the rest are from the FS website.

Synopsis

A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) The Seven Kingdoms have fallen asunder, as the sadistic teenager, Joffrey of House Lannister, ascends the Iron Throne following the death of his "father," Robert the Usurper. The Stark family in the North rises to power to combat this ascension, and the empowered Daenerys, the exiled last heir of the former ruling family, seeks a way to return to Westeros and rule it. Meanwhile the Night's Watch, the orphans and criminals who guard Westeros from the barbarians who live beyond the Wall find their numbers dwindling in the face of fantastical forces. Nebula Award Nominee (2000) , Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel (1999)

These books are so fascinating! It's almost like a game of chess. One character moves and another blocks. The stories of each individual are so interesting and the way they interact is unreal. You can't put it down for dying to see what will happen next.
