Group of approximately 100 assorted original early to mid-20th century color-printed and embossed labels for a variety of French chocolate manufacturers and shops, most or all printed by the St. Etienne, France firm of A. Mulcey, a firm which specialized in commercial printing, especially producing labels for food and wine products, the majority of the labels bearing the Mulcey imprint with some labels lacking any imprint mark, dating from the circa 1930s to 1950s.Various sizes, most approx. 20 x 16 cm. Loose as issued, currently housed in plastic sleeves in a modern binder. St. Etienne, France, 1930s-1950s. This collection of French chocolate labels is a wonderful and fairly representative showcase of early 20th century graphic design and printing. There are a variety of geometric and pictorial designs displayed across a range of techniques and applications, including color and foil papers, gilt-embossing, and elaborate typography. Some of the companies and shops for whom there are labels in this collection include Rosca, Chocolat Lanvin, L'Anneau d'Argent, La Bonbonniere, La Petite Chocolatiere, Boya, Casino, Coppelia, Corona, Edenia, Demoncout, Chocolat d'Evian, Margaret's, Mirault, Marquisat, Sobral, and many others. A lovely collection of commercial French printing.
