A very good copy. First edition of this guide to miniature painting designed for the education of young ladies. The author, Andre Leon Larue was born in 1785 and known professionally as Mansion. The son of a portrait painter, he worked as a miniaturist and also achieved remarkable results as a tinter of photographs during the 1840s and 50s. Root deliberately limited the number of illustrations so that the house could be customized and furnished with illustrations cut out from magazines and other sources. Rare. No copies appear in WorldCat library database at the time of this posting. 30 pp. 15 5/8" x 10". Tight copy with considerable shelf wear. Corners bumped and worn through, as are about half the edges.
