A scarce early edition of Magnum Dictionarium Latinum et Gallicum, ad Pleniorem Planioremque Scriptorium Latinorum Intelligentiam by Pierre Danet (c1650 - 1709). In French and Latin. Complete in one volume. With an engraving to frontispiece, a two colour decorative title and decorative pieces and capitals throughout. A great Latin and French Dictionary complied by the order of the most gracious Christian King. With a dedication, preface and list of Latin authors who are cited in the dictionary all in French to front. Previous owner's ink inscriptions to recto of frontispiece and preface. In a contemporary leather binding. Externally, generally sound but with some wear to extremities, evidence of past worming, rubbing and marks to boards. One spine label absent, loss to other. Hinges strained. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Bright but with occasional scattered spots and handling marks.…

Worn and scuffed with main damage to cloth portion but front hinge cracking open. Front pastedown has label residue. Page 511 has chipped bottom corner. but may be paper fault. Some foxing, staining and thumbing throughout. Occasional words added in ink, especially at beginning. Pierre Danet, French pastor and philologist, first compiled his French-Latin dictionary in the late 17th century for the heir to the French throne.
