1796 1ed Medieval Dress & Habits of England Costumes Illustrated Knights Strutt
Joseph Strutt was an 18th-century English antiquarian who is best known for his studies on the history of English customs and clothing. His most valuable and undoubtedly best work was 'Dress and Habits of the English People'. This book is profusely illustrated with 150+ sketches of English costumes from the earliest times through the 17th-century.
Strutt includes engravings of clothes of knights, clergy, royals, peasants, and slaves as well as headdresses, tombs, and ancient artifacts. A fascinating illustrated adventure!
Note the DNB's comment on Strutt's work:
"Strutt's work as an engraver is of exceptional merit and is still highly esteemed. In the study of those branches of archaeology which he followed he was a pioneer, and all later work on the same lines has been built on the foundations he laid."
