Description:
New York: Random House, 1937. First published in 1824 and subsequently compared to Burton's Arabian Nights, this classic is reprinted in a new edition with exquisite color illustrations, as well as line drawings, by Cyrus LeRoy Baldridge, who traveled throughout Persia (modern day Iran) to retrace the journeys of Hajji himself. The book includes a Foreword by Christopher Morley. This First Edition Thus has the 1937 date on the copyright page, as well as on the Title Page in Roman Numerals. Random House did not state First Edition on its earlier books until 30 years later, but only made note of subsequent printings. The book is in Fine, unread condition, with a close to Fine, price-clipped dust jacket. (Click on photo.) The book is bound in illustrated covers with artwork by Baldridge that match the artwork on the dust jacket. The book has a dark top-edge stain. The binding is tight and secure. The pages are clean and bright, with only a hint of toning. There are no names from former owners,…

Costumes of the Holy Land: text and six illustrations by the author
by Susan Southby

This is a large unbound folio 17 x 11" containing six full sized full color illustrations by the author. Her foreword says" The six costumes here reproduced were included among a collection of thirty or more such costumes worn by Palestinian Arab girls at a pageant in Beirut organised by the Women's Auxiliary of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees to raise funds for Arab refugee charities. . . ." The six large loose plates are lithographed in amazing bright color with a high level of detail, and are very striking. Each has a reproduced signature of the artist. The right margin of the portfolio has a paragraph of description of each costume. This was printed in England. The prints do not have tissue guards, and there is a bit of waviness at the bottom edge, but all are clean and undamaged. The portfolio has some wear and a small tear at the top but it has guarded the prints well. They would frame beautifully. Stunning colors, stunning costumes, rare publication.

Description:
New York: Harper & Brothers, 1943. Stated First Edition 4to size tan clothbound hardcover; 409 toned pages with black and white illustrations by Eleanor Beckham, including some full page illustrations. The artist's style is reminiscent of a coloring book. There is also a section illustrated with color swatches. Contents include: Pictures Fashion's Hall of Fame Characteristic Silhouette Color Accessories Fabrics Cosmetics and Coiffures Home Furnishings, more. Edgewear, wrinkles on covers, probably a publisher's defect; scratched top front corner. Toned pages and we noted a wrinkle on one page that is also likely a production defect. (This is a wartime book and the quality of the production and materials was not to the same standard as it had been 10 years before.) There is a little play in the front hinge - there is no separation; it is just not as firm as the back hinge. There is an inscription on fep. The swatched pages have some tanned areas and we noticed some dye…
