256 pages with frontispiece, photographs (some in color), bibliography and index, Folio (13" x 9 3/4") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and cover in original pictorial jacket. This presents 359 pictures of American courthouses, of their exteriors, their sites, their inner corridors and corners, their ornamental and structural detail. Most are black and white; a few are in color. The heart of the book is a portfolio of 152 images printed run along with three major essays: an account, lightened by anecdote of "The Origins and Impact of the County Court System" by Paul Reardon; a personal essay from Calvin Trillin called "County Thoughts," and a modestly titled but substantial survey of the courthouse as architecture by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and William Seale. Condition: Corners bumped. Corners and spine ends chipped, light edge wear with some closed tears else a very good copy in like jacket.
