Frontispiece engraving of man in Union soldier uniform waving goodbye to woman and three little children in doorway, one of whom holds American flag. Engraving signed "EJW" (WorldCat notes this refers to Elias James Whitney) and Felter. A story for young readers about the year that the narrator, a boy aged 11 years old, relates about his family life while his carpenter father away from home fighting as a Civil War soldier. ; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; 46 pages .
