London: John Murray, 1877 SCARCE, 1st Edition. viii,[2], 305pp, [1], 32pp; iv, [2], 317pp, uniformly bound in original blue covers with gilt hunting scene, beveled edges, bindings tight. Complete with eight plates, as called for, along with folding map (no tears). Two signatures present, the first being "G. R. Storrar", George Ronald Storrar (1877-1959) served as Assistant Engineer on the Sudan Government Railway from 1905-1927, during the Madhist War, and saw action against the Sultinate of Darfor during the British Campaign in that region. He retired as Chief Engineer at Atbara, and was also known for his photography of the locals. Also the signature of (Dr.) Charles H. Gatty is present, a member of the Royal Geographic Society, as well as the Zoological Society, both in London. Covers show corner wear, with some loss to upper/lower spines edges. Interior in Very Good Condition, inner hinges starting but holding, small booksellers bookplate for "Jon Bumpus, Oxford St.". From the personal collection of Dr. Brooks Ryder (1918-1995), graduate of Harvard College, Harvard School of Public Health, and Tufts Medical School. Known for his Public Health expertise overseas, throughout East Africa and Indonesia.
