Blind embossed decorative edging and detailing to boards. Red and black morrocco spine labels with gilt lettering and decoration. Raised banding to spines. In very good conditions. Covers show some wear, corners bumped, edges rubbed/chipped, ends of spines chipped. Front hinge slightly cracked on vol.1 but holding well. No loose pages or torn endpapers. Bindings all tight and sound. One or two small marks otherwise inside pages very clean and tight throughout. Vol.1 four pages at ‘CAP’ have small nick/chip to top edge. Vol. 4 lacks title pg and a couple of pages up to ‘QUA’, some creasing and marks to last pages of v.4. Else a very clean and tight copy. Unpaginated. Illustrated with many B&W full page engraved plates. (2 large folding plates in vols. 1&3; and 1 in vol. 4.) 148 plates total; Vol.1 42 plates; Vol.2. 50 plates; Vol.3 35 plates; Vol.4 19 plates. Plates list at rear of volume 4.

London: J F and C Rivington et al, 1783-86. Leather. Good. 17" by 10.5". Not Stated. Four volumes of the famous Chambers Cyclopaedia, which first began in 1728. This work is Abraham Rees' improved edition of Chambers' Cyclopaedia. He re-edited the original work in 1778 and created the supplements which contained much new matter. His edition was originally published in 1781-6 before a reprint in 1788-91.  Therefore this set is a very early edition of Rees' publication. For this edition Rees is said to have added more than 4,400 new articles. With an illustrated frontispiece to the first volume.Comprising volumes I and II of the original work and the two supplement volumes. This set is four volumes total.
